Since leaving the label, Planet Asia has remained an independent artist. This prominence earned him a deal with Interscope Records, but his only release on the label was the 2001 single "Pure Coke". He first began to gain prominence in 2001 when The Source gave him the First Round Draft Pick and named the Cali Agents' album How the West Was One as Independent Album of the Year. Planet Asia began working with producer Fanatik after moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1998, and released several 12" singles over the next three years. He was a member of the duo Cali Agents alongside Rasco, and has released albums as part of the groups Durag Dynasty, General Monks, Gold Chain Military and Skhool Yard.
